Governor Ganduje demands for apology from American university over unauthorised appointment

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state has demanded for an apology from the management of an American university, East Carolina University (ECU) over a controversial ‘appointment' he was given.

This came days after Ganduje’s spokesperson, Abba Anwar revealed that he was appointed as a visiting professor of e-governance and International Affairs in the institution. Anwar said news of the appointment was conveyed in a letter sent by Victor Mbarika, a lecturer of International Center for IT and Development at the school on November 30.

News of the appointment was however debunked by the university’s Interim Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr Grant Hayes, in a letter to Ganduje, dated December 4, 2020.

The letter titled ‘Re: Unavailability of Faculty Appointment,’ read;

“It has been brought to my attention that you received a letter from a faculty member dated November 30, 2020, that appeared to offer an unpaid appointment in the “International Center for IT and Development” at East Carolina University College of Business.

“I must inform you that the letter you received from Dr. Victor Mbarika, on November 30, 2020 does not convey an authorized offer of appointment or establish any position of scholar or professor at East Carolina University (“ECU”). Only the Chancellor, myself, or another official identified in ECU’s published statement on Delegation of Contracting Authority for the Division of Academic Affairs may authorize or sign appointment letters under which faculty are employed.”

The Kano state government which reacted to this in a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji on Sunday December 6, asked the university to sanction Victor Mbarika.  The state government added that they are saddened by the uproar stirred up by the controversial appointment that attempted to embarrass Mr Ganduje.

Usman who maintained that Ganduje did not solicit appointments in any university or institution of higher learning within and outside Nigeria, added that the Governor is shocked over the content of the letter from the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of the University.

There are multiple reports of police and soldiers allegedly taking over Lekki toll gate ahead of a fresh #EndSARS protest on Monday December 7.

It is alleged that the security operatives were deployed around midnight after military and police authorities warned that they will not allow another round of protests to take place.

Lagos state police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi had in a statement released on Sunday December 6, stated that some unpatriotic individuals and groups were planning to embark on the replica of the recent destructive and violent EndSARS protest on Monday. He described it as "illegal" and further averred that they will be stopping the protest.

Adejobi said in a statement;

“The Command has reliably gathered intelligence that certain individuals/groups have concluded plans to lure unsuspecting Lagosians, especially youths, into their planned protest which is proposed to commence tomorrow Monday 7th December 2020 at designated locations in the state.

“The Lagos State Police Command wishes to re-echo and remind the general public that the Government of Lagos State, businesses, individuals and security families still groan in losses and pains that the last violent EndSARS protest occasioned. Lagos State is still nurturing the wounds orchestrated by some violent EndSARS protesters and not fit to accommodate such protest for now.

“In the light of the above, the Lagos State Police Command, therefore, warns those who might want to disguise under EndSARS protest to cause another set of mayhem, brouhaha, and violence in the state, to desist from such plans as the police and other security agencies will not fold their arms seeing individuals or groups orchestrating another violence and anarchy in the state."

Attorney General Bill Barr considering leaving post before Trump exits office

Attorney General Bill Barr considering leaving post before Trump exits office

The United States Attorney General, William Barr, is considering leaving his post before January 20, the day President Donald Trump leaves office, according to a new report by CNN.

According to CNN, a source reveals that Barr, a Trump loyalist, is not happy with Trump, writing that Barr "is not someone who takes bullying and turns the other cheek!"

"He has not made a final decision," the source said.

Acording to reports, Trump was frustrated with Barr for saying in an interview that the Justice Department had found no evidence of widespread election fraud.

According to the Washington post, Trump and Barr had a "contentious," lengthy meeting inside the West Wing last week Tuesday.

On Thursday, December 3, Trump refused to say whether he had confidence in Barr, a sign that the attorney general has fallen out of the President's favor.

"Ask me that in a number of weeks from now. They should be looking at all of this fraud," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

Barr has faced accusations that he has politicized the Justice Department, by involving himself in the sentencing for Trump's friend Roger Stone and dropping federal charges against former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Barr, a former attorney general under President George H.W. Bush, Barr came out of retirement in 2019 to take over the Justice Department after Trump dismissed former Attorney General Jeff Sessions from the role.

Trump has refused to concede the 2020 presidential, claiming the election was fraudulently stolen from him.

In an interview with the magazine, the Mega-producer and his wife, Nicole, opened up pandemic parenting, teaching their two little boys about hard work, responsibilities, and helping them enjoy their childhood as much as possible.

“I always wanted to be a dad,” says DJ Khaled with deep sincerity. “I couldn’t wait to have kids—it’s something I’d been talking about most of my adult life.”

We hear that you set up a pod school for Asahd and some classmates.

Nicole: In March, when Asahd’s preschool sent everybody home, I was doing the Zoom classes with him every single day. I thought to myself, “This cannot be the best we can do!” So I organized a learning pod at our house with other quarantined families. We have seven kids and two teachers. And it’s absolutely amazing!

Khaled: Nicole did everything. We turned a guesthouse on our property into a little schoolhouse. It’s perfect because we have a playground right there too.

What are some daily rituals in the Khaled household?

Khaled: I start every morning off praying. Then I come downstairs and kiss Nicole, Asahd, and Aalam and I get the music vibing. These days we’ve been listening to a lot of reggae and salsa. Also Sade and Aretha Franklin. Music is a big part of our life. I have my turntables and I let Asahd scratch the records.

What’s your favorite father-son time with Asahd?

Khaled: We do this thing after lunch where we drive around together in the golf cart, just him and me. That’s our time. He tells me everything he’s doing and what he’s been thinking about. And I talk to him about how proud we are of him and how good he’s doing in school, and how great he is at being a big brother. It’s real peaceful. It’s kind of our man-to-man time.

You often talk about the importance of hustle. But Asahd and Aalam are growing up with a lot of privilege. Asahd has had his own Jordan apparel line—the Jordan x Asahd collection—since he was in diapers. How do you square the two?

Khaled: The kids see Daddy work all day in the studio. Especially now with the pandemic, I’m doing all my office work and meetings right in the backyard, so they see me nonstop working. I explain to Asahd, “Yo, Daddy’s got to work to make sure that everything’s good.” I want the kids to know that Mommy and Daddy work hard and that we want them to work hard when they grow up, to take care of their own families.

Nicole: We show them every day what it is to work. It’s not like we shield them from business.

What about household responsibilities and things like that?

Nicole: Asahd definitely has chores. Even though we have housekeepers, he knows how to make his bed. And he puts away his toys. Actually, he’s more organized than we are.

Khaled: And he wants to help make us breakfast. He loves to make chocolate-chip pancakes. That’s his specialty.

Let’s talk about limits. How do you tell Asahd “No”? Do you ever have to go Supernanny on him and put him on the naughty step?

Nicole: It’s amazing that we have never had to put him in a corner or anything like that. The most I ever have to say is, “Okay, I’m going to count.” And as soon as I say, “One,” that’s it. I don’t even have to go to “Two.”

Khaled: He’s such a good kid. We are so blessed it’s unbelievable.

Do you worry about your boys growing up too fast?

Nicole: I do try and keep life as traditional as possible, because we live in a very hectic world. I want them to enjoy being kids as long as they possibly can. I try to keep it like how we grew up as much as possible.

Khaled: Yes, because they learn so fast, you know what I’m saying? So we’re protective. We’re definitely cautious about the TV, and when we listen to hip-hop, it’s always the clean versions of everything. That’s mandatory!

What’s Asahd watching?

Nicole: His favorite shows are PAW Patrol and PJ Masks. Yesterday it was raining, so we had a Cars marathon. He was in his pajamas all day long and we watched CarsCars 2, and Cars 3

And what about books?

Nicole: He makes me read 10 books every night before bed, and he’s serious about it being 10—he will go through and count them. These days it’s a lot of Dr. Seuss—Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? and Green Eggs and Ham, which he knows by heart. When I read it out loud to the class the other day, he was saying the words with me and everyone was like, “Stop, Asahd!”

So if each of you could describe your parenting style in one word, what would it be?

Khaled: Fun!

Nicole: Structured!

Khaled: True. I always tell the kids, we are so blessed to have Mommy.
