Omoyele Sowore accuses FG of planning to arrest and infect him with COVID-19

Publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Federal government of planning to arrest and infect him with the novel Coronavirus disease.

In a post shared on social media last night, Sowore claims the alleged attack is because of the exclusive report his platform shared about Abba Kyari, the President's Chief of Staff, testing positive for Coronavirus.

He wrote

Folks: It is important to inform you that we are facing some unusual circumstances, and the days ahead might be very tense and difficult, but we will conquer. Following the revelation by SaharaReporters that the Chief of Staff. Abba Kyari contracted Corona Virus and subsequent revelations about the criminal conducts/negligence that has brought Nigeria to the nadir of this global pandemic, the Buhari regime today sent some high powered delegation to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of NIGERIA to help procure a judge to grant a detention order against me.

The courts are reportedly on break due to COVID-19 pandemic. This was leaked to our lawyers a few minutes ago. They plan this time is to use the Nigerian Army for the sinister plot. The plan is to obtain a court order and then send soldiers to shoot up my residence in Abuja by claiming that I resisted arrest with armed colleagues, if I am arrested alive they would take me to an Army Barracks in Abuja to be tortured and /or infected with COVID-19. I am not raising the alarm to scare anyone, it is to inform our compatriots that we should brace for difficult days ahead.

However, rest assured that we are in high spirits and are totally convinced that we may be turning a historic corner in the face of brutal repression.
I am urging all to stand firm, unbowed and unbroken.
Thank you

Reps take delivery of exotic cars and begin distribution amid coronavirus outbreak

The House of Representatives has started taking delivery of the Toyota Camry 2020 model cars acquired for members as official cars.

According to Punch, some of the cars were sighted by their correspondent at different parking lots within the National Assembly Complex, on Thursday, March 26, 2020.

This comes at a time when Nigeria is battling the coronavirus crisis and Nigerians took to Twitter to blast the move.

On February 5, 2020, the legislators had at a closed-door where they resolved to purchase 400 units of the exotic car. The House has, however, kept sealed lips on the cost of each unit.

Punch correspondent observed that the House procured the V6 Limited Edition variant of the car.

Chairman of the Committee on House Services, Mr. Wale Raji, who confirmed delivery of the cars declined to respond to further enquiries.

The cars, which belong to the National Assembly, are usually auctioned to the lawmakers after four years.

A check on the website of Toyota revealed that each of the vehicles – depending on the variant, has a price tag of between US$25,000 to US $35,000, excluding the cost of shipping and custom duties, which is about 100 per cent of the actual cost of each unit.

About 14 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado sports utility vehicles have already been handed out to presiding as well as other principal officers and chairmen of select House committees, the publication reports, adding that some lawmakers who were contacted on Thursday said they had yet to receive vehicles delivered in "the first batch."

Giving a breakdown of how the vehicles are shared, a member of the House, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, the 400 saloon cars would be allocated to each of the 360 members and some top management staff, Chiefs of Staff to the (two) presiding officers as well as some of their special advisers and assistants.

The lawmaker explained that new members who did not get committee appointments would benefit from the first batch.

The source told the publication: "I was told 100 have already arrived and they are sharing them to new members who are not chairmen and deputy chairmen (of committees). The next batch will be for returning (ranking) members who are neither chairmen nor deputy chairmen. The last batch will go to ranking member with appointments."

The Committee on House Services and the National Assembly Management, led by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori, had constituted a joint committee to oversee the acquisition, verification and distribution to the lawmakers.

The Committee on House Services, which also exists in the Senate, serves as the protocol and welfare department.

The joint committee was set up as some members had alleged that the National Assembly had become a "dumping ground" for smuggled and refurbished automobiles.

Ogun police arrests man for stealing seven cars from worshipers at RCCG's Redemption Camp (photo)

The police in Ogun state have arrested a middle-aged man, Friday Ezi, for stealing seven cars of worshippers at the Redeemed Christian Church of God's camp ground on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State and selling them off to his accomplice, 27-year-old Onyekachi Atama, a spare parts autodealer in Onitsha, Anambra state.

A statement from the state police command spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the duo were arrested after Friday made away with a Toyota Camry car marked LND 636 EZ from Diligent Road within the Camp on February 1, 2020, which spurred the owner, one Titilayo Otitodogbon, to lodge a complaint at the police station.

On the strength of the complaint, a team of crack detectives were detailed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Chris Amanyi, to fish out the thieves.

"The detectives embarked on full scale forensic and technical investigation which yielded positive result with the arrest of one Friday Ezi, who actually stole the car from Redemption Camp. He was traced to Edo State, and was promptly arrested on the 10th of March 2020. His arrest and eventual confessional statement led the operatives to Onitsha in Anambra State, to effect the arrest of his accomplice and the notorious receiver, Onyekachi Atama, on the 15th of March 2020" Oyeyemi said .

Oyeyemi added that the State Commissioner of police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the Anti car theft section of the State Criminal investigation and intelligence Department for proper investigation and prosecution.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry relocated from Canada to Meghan's hometown Los Angeles

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have left Canada amid the coronavirus pandemic and have moved permanently to California.

They took a private flight to the Los Angeles area before the borders between Canada and the US were shut, The Sun UK reports.

The Sussexes will set up a new home close to Hollywood, where they are currently living in lockdown with their ten-month-old son Archie.

A royal insider told the publication: "Harry and Meghan have left Canada now for good. The borders were closing and flights were stopping. They had to get out.

"But this move was planned for some time. They realised Canada would not work out for various reasons and they want to be based in the Los Angeles area.

"They have a big support network there. It’s where their new team of Hollywood agents and PRs and business managers are based. Meghan has lots of friends there and, of course, her mum Doria.

The bombshell move — dubbed Megxit 2 — has reportedly "stunned and horrified" members of the Royal Family who believed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would consider returning to Britain to help their relatives after Prince Harry's father, Prince Charles tested positive for COVID-19.

This came as US entertainment giant Disney pushed ahead with the release of a charity film about elephants, for which Meghan provides the voiceover.

The deal is believed to have been done after Harry cornered the company’s boss Bob Iger at the premiere of The Lion King in London last year.

The royal insider said the arrangement is another indication of where the couple see their priorities going forward.

The royal insider explained: "For Meghan, this type of work is going to be coming out of Hollywood going forward.

"She feels comfortable there around her people and has projects already planned like her children’s book."

Royal courtiers believe the decision to move full-time to the US makes a mockery of the couple’s earlier pledge that they chose Canada because they wanted to live in a Commonwealth country.

One said: "We are stunned and horrified. The country is going through a traumatic event at the moment. They have a beautiful cottage in Windsor where they could have based themselves.

"It’s just a stone’s throw away from where the Queen and Prince Philip are in self-isolation.

"Prince Charles and Prince Andrew are both out of action too for very different reasons.

"This was an opportunity for them to put country before their own interests. California isn’t going anywhere."
