It is madness If at this age, I still think of taking a wife – Jide Kosoko

In June 2016, veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko lost his third wife, Henrietta Kosoko after a brief battle with diabetes. In a recent interview with The Point, he narrated what actually led to her death saying,
‘Forget all those things you heard. She was ill. She died of complications that arose from diabetes. Honestly, my family, friends and colleagues stood by me and I appreciate that.Of course, you will always have one or two persons, who would say one or two negative things. But you see, in my life, I have fought so many battles and I have won all. It is only people who want to be crushed that would confront me in war, because the Almighty God has His plans for me. It is just quite unfortunate that these things are happening to me, but I would still thank the Almighty God for everything. There are reasons for everything and I want to believe that it is natural’.When asked if he’ll be taking a new wife, he said,

‘If at this age, I still think of taking a wife, when I have over a dozen children, it is madness. On January 12, I will be 63. I am taking care of some of the children, while others are now adults. She left and left me with two teenagers’.

Golden Globes 2017 pays emotional tribute to Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher

Last night, the 74th Golden Globes paused between handing out awards to honor Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds with a very emotional tribute montage of their work and moments together behind the scenes.

Fisher, best known for her work as Leia Organa in the Star Wars films, died at 60 on Dec. 27; Reynolds, her mother and also an iconic actress best known for her work in Singin’ in the Rain and The Unsinkable Molly Brown, died the next day at 84.

“Hollywood has been around for over a hundred years, five generations built this industry. It’s a big industry and sometimes we forget that it’s actually a community, a community of families. This past year we lost so many legends and icons but a few weeks ago we lost a mother and a daughter within just a couple of days,” Golden Globes host Jimmy Fallon said.
“It was a terrible loss that we all felt.”The montage that played afterward showed clips from Star Wars, Shampoo, Singin’ in the Rain, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and more footage from home videos that were included in the recent HBO documentary on their lives, Bright Lights: Starring Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher.

Sokoto state government denies disbanding Sokoto Sharia police over seizure of musical instruments used at state governor's daughter's wedding

Last week, the Sokoto Hisbah Commission which is the special police force that enforces Sharia practice in the North, seized the musical instruments used during the pre-wedding dinner of the daughter of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal last December, for allegedly violating Shari'ah law being operated in the state

There were reports online yesterday that the state government, in retaliation, has disbanded the Commission. The Secretary to the state government, Bashir Garba, has released a statement, denying the report. Read the statement below.

The attention of Sokoto State Government has been drawn to stories in the media to the effect that the State Hisbah Commission has been disbanded. The Government wishes to clarify that the operations of the State Hisbah Commission, which is a creation of the law, has not been suspended. Similarly, it should be noted that the leadership of the Commission is still in place and have not been suspended from duty.
By the provisions of the law establishing the Hisbah Commission, only the State Governor has the right to remove any member of the Commission from his/her duty, which in this case, nothing of such has happened.
For the records, the Ministry of Religious Affairs held a meeting with the leadership of the three factions claiming authority over Hisbah Commission in the State. An agreement was reached to harmonise their operations for the benefit of the citizenry.
That process is still on, and further communication will be made after due consultations with relevant stakeholders.
We implore journalists to always cross-check all issues with designated authorities before proceeding to press.
