EFCC arrests Kwara State TV GM, three others over land fraud

The General Manager, Kwara State Television Authority, Abdulfatai Adebowale has been arrested by the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over allegations of Land fraud.

Adebowale was arrested alongside two personnel of the state television authority, located on Apata Yakuba Area of Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital and a senior official of the Kwara State Bureau of Land.

It will be recalled that the immediate past governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatai Ahmed had sometime in 2014 allocated 10 plots of land at the premises of the state's television outfit to some of its personnel.

In a twist, however, 13 employees of the television station in a petition, dated May 8, 2019, alleged that its General Manager sold the 10 plots of land given to them by Ahmed's government and converted the proceeds to his personal use.

According to them, "Since 2014 to date, the said plots of land were hijacked by the General Manager, Alhaji Abdulfatai Adewale Adebowale against the purpose intended by the state government.

"In 2017, the in-house Union of the Corporation Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers (RATTAWU) started agitation for the recovery of the land from the General Manager, which led to plethora of correspondences between the Union and the Office of the Kwara State Head of Service.

"The union wrote the Kwara State Bureau of Land, requesting for the allocation papers in a quest to recover the said land, converted by the General Manager as his personal property, but all to no avail."

In the course of investigating the petition, operatives of the EFCC discovered that Adebowale and his son benefited from the plots of land, while the remaining parts of the land were sold to outsiders without the knowledge of the station’s personnel to whom they were allocated to.

It was also discovered that Adebowale received the allocation papers from the Kwara State Bureau of Land in the names of the station's employees, but did not deliver them to the rightful owners. All the suspects are currently in detention and will soon be arraigned in

You're not the main boyfriend of any lady who doesn't ask you for money - Princess Shyngle

Princess Shyngle insinuated that women who don't ask men for money are cheating on them in an Instagram post she shared today.

The Gambian-born actress enmeshed in a body-theft controversy days ago, 'alerted' men on their place in a lady's life especially if she doesn't ask for money. Princess Shyngle wrote;

If your girlfriend doesn’t ask money from you just know that her real boyfriend is rich

UK to deport Nigerian woman who bribed a nurse to pose as her baby-daddy so her child could obtain a British passport

Maria Adesanya, a Nigerian immigrant and mother of a five year-old girl is currently facing deportation from the UK after she was found guilty of bribing a male NHS nurse to pose as her baby-daddy so that her child could get British passport.

31-year old Adesanya paid £3,000 to UK citizen and Nigerian-born Adekunle Adeparusi, 44, to put his name down as the father on the child’s birth certificate. Adeparusi then pocketed a further £13,000 that he claimed in child tax credits even though he had no role in the daughter’s life.

The pair hatched the plan in January 2014, three months after pregnant Adesanya entered the UK on an eight-month visitors VISA. They were caught in February 2015 after the mother applied for a Derivative Authority Card. During this time the Adesanya found work in UK using the ID cards of two EU nationals, a Portuguese and a Dutch citizen.

The child, now aged five, is thought to still be living in the UK. Adesanya was sentenced to 14 months in jail but immediately released on licence as she had been under curfew since October. She was found guilty of false representation and possessing false ID documents.

Adeparusi, on the other hand was jailed for 33 months after admitting making a false statement with intent. Sentencing Adesanya and Adeparusi, Judge John Edwards said:

‘This really was a performance of incredible stupidity by you. You have a child out of wedlock which is frowned on by your culture and feared what would happen to you and your child if you returned to Nigeria.

‘The effect to them of their mother serving a period in prison would be shattering. You have spent 10 months worrying about your future and your children’s future. Being separated from the children would have a significant detrimental effect on their emotional wellbeing. But you displayed a blatant disregard for the immigration laws in this country. What you did was disgraceful and dishonest.’

‘Organised immigration crime such as that which you engaged in can have and does have a significant impact on public funds and confidence, and the abuse of documents and the lawful exercise of the right to enter this country goes to the heart of the system which all of us rely on.

‘When you came to this country in March 2007 and settled down with your family in Kent, qualifying as a nurse, I’m satisfied you intended to lead a constructive and contributing life. But that all ended when you met Ms Adesanya. You lied face to face to the registrar and the passport office and it didn’t end there. This was a highly devised and lucrative scheme, these are charges which completely undermine the integrity of the immigration system and garnered you a significant amount of money.’

''You will always hold that special spot in my heart'' - Elikem tells estranged wife, Pokello on her birthday

Elikem Kumordzie and Pokello Nare appear to be friendly exes even after they ended their marriage in 2018 and called each other out in series of posts on social media.

The couple who met and fell in love on season 8 of Big Brother Africa (The Chase) reality show in 2013 and got married in 2015, went their separate ways last year after their three year old marriage crumbled.

Although Pokello and Elikem have since moved on and are seeing other people now, Elikem appears to still hold her in high regards. Jamaican man spends 82 days in jail for bringing honey into US A Jamaican man identified as Leon Haughton was detained for almost three months in the United States after bringing in bottles of honey from the Caribbean island that customs agents mistakenly believed to be liquid methamphetamine. Haughton’s long ordeal began on December 29th 2018 at Baltimore-Washington International Airport when customs agents had a dog sniff his bags. Inside they found three bottles duly labelled as honey that Haughton, a 45-year-old father of three, uses to sweeten his tea. According to the charging document, the agents suspected him of transporting liquid methamphetamine, and placed him in detention. Laboratory results from Maryland took more than two weeks to arrive: they were negative. Haughton thought that was the end of it. He was wrong. The bottles were sent to a second laboratory in Georgia after the first was judged to be insufficiently equipped to analyze the liquids. Although he had a green card granting him legal residence in the United States, Haughton’s arrest set in motion a detention process with the US immigration service. His lawyer had enormous difficulty contacting immigration authorities and for good reason. The US government had been partially shut down as a result of a budget impasse between President Donald Trump and Democrats over his demand for funding to build a wall on the border with Mexico. The tests in Georgia, meanwhile, finally confirmed that Haughton was indeed transporting honey. He was freed on March 21, 82 days after he returned from vacation. Unable to work for three months and far from his children, Haughton lost his two jobs as a cleaner and construction worker. “They messed up my life,” he told the Post, looking back on a bitter ordeal that even honey will be unable to sweeten.
