Egyptian football legend Mido faces flogging in Saudi Arabia after insulting a fan on Twitter

Egyptian football legend and former Tottenham striker, Mido, may likely face ten strokes of the cane in Saudi Arabia after being accused of insulting a fan on social media.

The 36-year-old has since been sacked as coach of club Al-Wehda after abusing the supporter on social media, sources said.

Trouble started after a fan wrote to him on social media after Al-Wehda’s latest 4-0 defeat to rivals Al-Nassrin the Saudi league.

A supporter wrote online: “Please, resign from your rule as Al Wehda coach, we understand your coaching style, but it is not helpful, it is better for you to be pundit, your words is good, but as coach you are not so well.”

Mido allegedly replied: “pu**y of your aunt’s mother”.

The ex-striker denied responsibility for the abusive Twitter post despite it being sent from his verified account and insisted his page had been hacked.

He said: “I respect the decision of the board, but my account was hacked and I’m going to use all my legal tools to prove it.”

In Saudi Arabia, it's an offense under the law of the strict Islamic kingdom to publicly insult a Saudi national. Punishment for such a crime has previously been flagellation.

A club source told The Sun yesterday: “Saudi law has made it clear that using social media to insult or threaten someone will end in punishment.

“Saudi newspapers have written that anyone found guilty for insulting a Saudi national will receive a punishment of 10 floggings.

“The club stepped in before any fan went to the Saudi police and had him arrested. He is still in danger of punishment.” Since his appointment in January, Mido helped the team in 13 matches, winning six, losing four and drawing three.

In a statement, Mido said yesterday: “Thanks to Al-Wehda board and thanks to the fans.

“I held the responsibility in tough conditions and with the support of God, the board, the players’ dedication, the technical, the administrative and the medical staff I was able to lead the team to outstanding performance and results which were hailed by everyone.”

Labour Party sues INEC over exclusion from fact-finding meeting In Rivers State

Labour Party has filed a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its exclusion from a meeting with the fact-finding committee sent to Rivers State to investigate the irregularities that marred elections in the state.

In a suit filed before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday marked FHC/AB/306/2019, the Labour Party and its governorship candidate in the March 9 governorship and house of assembly elections, Isaac Wonwu, are praying to court to determine whether INEC was right to have excluded them from meeting INEC’s fact-finding team that was sent to the state to look into the disputes arising from the polls.

The party is also praying the court to stop the electoral body from proceeding, as it had announced, with the resumption and declaration of the results of the polls until the matter has been determined.

INEC has scheduled Wednesday, March 20, 2019, for the announcement of the result of the March 9 elections held in the state.

'I love you no matter what' - R Kelly wishes his enstranged daughter 'Happy Birthday' despite being branded a 'Monster' by her

R. Kelly has just sent birthday wishes to his eldest daughter on her 21st birthday today.

The embattled singer dropped a “Happy Birthday” song to Joann Kelly, his daughter with ex-wife Drea Kelly making it the first time he’s tweeted anything since January 1.

Joann, who performs under the stage name Buku Abi, had been quiet on the controversy surrounding her father until earlier this year, when she made a lengthy statement. “My choice to not speak on him and what he does is for peace of mind. My emotional state. And for MY healing,” Joann said back in January, adding that it has been very “difficult to process it all.”
