Meghan Markle's estranged father speaks following the birth of the royal baby
Meghan Markle's father has granted an interview following the birth of his grandson.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their first child at 5:26 am today May 6th and the birth was announced hours later.
Shortly after the announcement, Thomas Markle sr, 74, said in a statement to The Sun:
"I'm delighted to hear that mother and child are doing well.
"I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity, and honor."
He continued, "God bless the child and I wish him health and happiness, and my congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry, and God save the Queen."
Baby Sussex is Thomas' sixth grandchild but he is the first grandchild for Meghan's mother Doria Ragland.
A royal expert previously speculated that Thomas Markle may never meet Prince Harry and Meghan's baby. Thomas is reportedly persona non grata at the Palace and he previously told the press he has no plans to travel abroad to visit his grandchild.
The royal expert said: "I can’t think for a moment that Thomas Markle will ever be able to meet his grandson or granddaughter."
Another said that Meghan "moved on" from her family drama and is focusing solely on motherhood.
