FG approves renaming of FETHA to Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki
The Federal government has approved the renaming of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, FETHA, to Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki with immediate effect. Ekwueme who was the first elected Vice-President of Nigeria from 1979 to 1983, died in November 2017.
Announcing the change of name for the medical center, the Governing Board Chairman of the Health institution, Tijani Ramalan, said the development
“This development is a blessing from God the Almighty as a lot of benefits will come to the hospital in the areas of funding infrastructural developments by TETFUND and manpower capacity building of staff by the PTDF.
It is my pleasure to announce to the people of Ebonyi state that the federal ministry of health has approved the request by Alex Ekwueme University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi state to have the federal teaching hospital Abakaliki, FETHA, as its teaching Hospital.
With this formal announcement, may I seize this opportunity to thank the Board, Chief Medical Director, management team and staff of Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki for their team work, support and cooperation to the Board which helped immensely in the success recorded in the hospital'' he said
