''Steer clear of our offices'' - PDP warns Oshiomhole, APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the factional National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, to rein in his party thugs, who the APC detailed to disrupt activities at the PDP National Secretariat, Abuja.

The PDP said while it can understand that the APC has been distraught over the renewed surge of Nigerians to the platform of our repositioned party of choice; which signposts their inevitable victory in the 2019 election, the ruling party’s resort to banditry and violent attack on their secretariat is a handshake taken beyond the elbow and will not be tolerated. Read the rest of the statement below...

The whole world witnessed with dismay, how APC thugs, brandishing their party’s famished brooms and charms; armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons stormed our national secretariat which has become a beehive of activities and attacked and wounded our members and supporters before they were dispelled by security operatives.

The PDP had repeatedly warned against APC’s proclivity for violence and unprovoked attacks, but we never imagined that their desperation for power will drive them to the insanity of attacking our national secretariat.

Intelligence report available to the PDP shows that the thugs were assembled and mobilized from the National Secretariat of the APC.

We therefore charge security agencies, who also witnessed this attack, to immediately investigate this development, arrest and prosecute all individuals and officials of APC connected with the attack.

Moreover, the unleashing of thugs by the APC against our law-abiding party members and supporters, is particularly revealing of those behind some of the violent attacks on innocent Nigerians in various parts of the country.

Finally, while the PDP appreciates the overwhelming support by Nigerian's across board, our party restates the determination to dismantle all forces of intimidation and rigging machinery of the APC ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Suspected herdsmen behead Adamawa PDP chairman, flee with head

The police in Adamawa state are currently investigating the death of the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bare ward in the Numan Local Government Area, Adamawa State, Charles Chrisanthus, who was allegedly attacked by suspected herdsmen on August 29th. The herdsmen according to reports, killed him in front of his wife, Dorcas, beheaded him and then took off with his head.

The distraught wife who went to the State Criminal Investigation Department to lodge her complaint on Tuesday, narrated to Punch how her husband was killed in her presence.

“His attackers led by our Fulani neighbours repeatedly stabbed him on the back and on his stomach before beheading my husband in our farm and made away with his head,” she said.

Dorcas accused the state Criminal Investigation Department of shielding some of her husband's killers whom they have arrested but allowed to go seek medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.

“The police under the guise of allowing the suspects to seek medical attention are shielding those that killed my husband. The only thing I want is justice,” she stated.

Confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations officer in the state, Musa Habibu, insisted that some of the alleged perpetrators of the crime were in custody, adding that investigation into the incident was ongoing. Asked about the suspects allegedly receiving medical attention in a hospital, the spokesman said

“A suspect has a right to medical attention if he is sick. Some arrests have been made and those arrested are in police custody. I have had consultations with the assistant commissioner of police handling the issue who said arrest had been made. But if they said one of those arrested is receiving medical attention, a suspect has a right to medication if he’s truly sick, it could be but I don’t have that information,”

2019: Charly Boy tells PACT to forget about Fela Durotoye as their consensus candidate until further notice

Following the controversy surrounding the emergence of Fela Durotoye as the consensus presidential candidate of Presidential Aspirants Coming Together (PACT), a civil society organisation, the Charly Boy led OurMumuDonDo Movement, has called for the suspension of discussions for the time being.

Charly Boy, stated this on Thursday in Abuja at a press conference, where he said the movement disapproved of any process on the emergence of a consensus candidate that is devoid of the people's participation. He appealed to the leadership of the coalition to postpone further discussions on presenting a united front for a presidential candidate, until the conclusion of presidential primaries of all political parties.

In his words: “we wish to advise the leaders of the PACT initiative very strongly that further discussions on presenting a united front for a young presidential candidate should be postponed until the completion of presidential primaries in all concerned political parties. It is therefore important to inform the Nigerian people within and outside the country, that after due consultations with highly respected Nigerians, opinion moulders and social influencers across different divides of our society, we are convinced that without the participation of the Nigerian people in the process of electing a flag-bearer for a united front and their endorsement thereof, the process is incomplete and void.”

The group expressed disappointment that the options given to the aspirants by the group did not go down well with the leadership of PACT, therefore making them not to arrive at a decision that represented the true yearnings of all Nigerians.

"Three options were reeled off to the aspirants by the group. Option A was for the aspirants to unanimously agree on who would be projected as the flag-bearer of their united front and that this would be done before their respective party primaries to save cost and time," he explained.

“Option B was for the aspirants to wait until they had all gone through the party primaries in their respective political parties and then gather to elect their consensus flag-bearer for a united front." He pointed out that there are bound to be stumbling blocks in great endeavours, adding that such would not deter them.

Last week, Fela Durotoye emerged as the consensus candidate of PACT. However, a presidential aspirant, Kingsley Moghalu, rejected the outcome of the election noting that the process was not transparent enough. He later pulled out of the coalition, stating that his presidential ambition was still intact.
