A heartbroken father in China's Jiangxi Province broke down in tears after completing his city's international marathon.
The marathon runner participated in the marathon on November 11 and completed it in 2 hours 50 minutes.
He signed up for this year's marathon with his son to encourage him to keep fit but the son drowned in August, shortly after the registration. The father insisted on running the marathon and each time he tried to give up, he took out a photo of his son, looked at it, and continued the race.
Immediately he got to the finish line, he fell and cried as he mourned his son who was meant to complete the race with him.
"He should have come with me," the grieving father cried to newsmen.
The father and his son ran the marathon last year for the first time and they completed it in 3 hours 40 minutes. He said his son said to him at the time, "It doesn't matter, dad, we'll do it again next year."
Sadly, that was never to be.
