The murder of a final year student of the Imo State University, Owerri, on her 23rd birthday was cult related, police investigation has revealed. See previous report here.
Kelechi Assumpta Ibe, a Banking and Finance student was shot dead by unknown gunmen during her 23rd birthday party in Owerri, last Thursday.
Imo State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, who confirmed the incident said that preliminary investigation by the Anti Cultism Unit and Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the command, revealed that her murder was cult related.
"The killing of the female final year student was cult related. I have therefore instructed the Anti Cultism Unit of the Command to take over the matter from the state CID," he said.
"This is because the Anti Cultism Unit possesses the professional well withal than the state CID in issues relating to cultism.
We are closing in on the suspects and we will soon round them up. Cultism is destroying our society, our universities.
Parents and Guardians must keep telling their children to denounce Cultism. As a command, we are working hard to make sure that issues of Cultism and killings are permanently put to rest in Imo state" added Ezike.
