Olympic cyclist Lizzie Armitstead marries Philip Deignan in stunning ceremony - after cyclist makes her 10 minutes LATE

Olympic cyclist Lizzie Armitstead stunned in a lace ivory wedding dress as she married Team Sky racer Philip Deignan in front of friends and family today.

But the brunette beauty's day didn't go without drama, as she was reportedly 10 minutes late after her car was held up by a CYCLIST.

The star finally made it to the church in her home town of Otley, West Yorkshire, and photos captured the moment she walked out hand in hand with her new husband, beaming from ear to ear.

Swapping her Olympic gear for the stunning gown, Lizzie showed off her figure in the clinging number, which showed off a hint of cleavage with a plunging neck.

Meanwhile her other half looked just as happy as they were showered with confetti, and wore a blue tux for the big day.

The star no doubt felt the nerves shortly before, as her vintage coach got caught behind a lone bike on the way to The Bridge United Reformed Church.

Ironically, she previously joked to OK! magazine: "There'll be strictly no cycling theme at the wedding!"

Lizzie chose green dresses in different styles for her bridesmaids, and they were greeted with cheers all round as they left the church and made their way to a 1932 Rolls Royce.

One well wisher told the Telegraph shortly after: "It's ironic Lizzie was late for her own wedding because of a slow cyclist holding up her coach."

Philip popped the question last September after the couple had been dating for a year.

Speaking about the surprise engagement previously, Lizzie said she didn't expect it and added to OK! magazine: "I had the World Championships two weeks after his birthday and the usual time for athletes to do things like propose is on holiday or during down time when the pressure's gone, so I wasn't in that mind frame."

The couple first met in 2010 when they were teammates at Cervélo TestTeam.
