Laurence Fox takes a swipe at ex Billie Piper comparing her to a DEAD HAMSTER
Lewis actor Laurence Fox appears to have taken a swipe at ex-wife Billie Piper – comparing her to a dead hamster.
The actor, known to millions as DI Hathaway in the ITV crime drama, broke his silence on their split while on stage at the Isle of Wight festival.
Fox, 38, appeared at the Newport music gala as he builds a career as a singer-songwriter.
And he gave clear hints there is no love lost between him and Billie after their divorce last month. The couple have children aged four and seven.
In a thinly veiled jibe, he joked: “Some of you may know I’ve lost my pet hamster recently. It’s a very emotional time.”

He went on to perform a string of tracks about heartache and break-ups, but insisted: “All these songs are about my old hamster. I miss him terribly.”
Fox sipped from a glass all through his appearance on the festival’s Hard Rock Stage. Gesturing to a bandmate, he joked: “Neither of us have a drink in our glass. We’re now going to sing a new song called My Eyes Are On Fire Again. It’s about my hamster.”
He finished by saying: “Oh my God” and quickly moving on, adding: “This next song is called I Am Free. No comment either.”

In a shock admission, he revealed a track named The Best Mistake is a reference to his children. He told the festival audience: “This song is about my children, who I love. Who wouldn’t? It’d be weird to hate your children. It’s called The Best Mistake.” In March he and Billie confirmed their split, insisting no one else was involved. Chatting to the Sunday Mirror backstage, he told how writing songs was a “cathartic” way to channel his emotions. He said: “The music thing is complete passion. I really enjoyed performing.”
He said his children are among his biggest fans, but went on: “Losing hamsters is hideous. It’s very bad because the cage all needs to be rearranged – and the kids.”
Fox and Lewis co-star Kevin Whately announced last November they were to end the hit series after 10 years.a
